Michigan Adventure: Day 5

Today we left Mackinaw Island.  We had a wonderful time here visiting with family and enjoying the beauty of the island and all the fun outdoor recreation.
After one final lunch together we headed to Sault Ste Marie to watch the boats go through the Soo Locks.  The Soo Locks are on the St Marie River and join together Lake Superior and Lake Huron.  The water transfers the boats at a 50 foot difference.  The water transfer is very quick and exciting to watch.
Nathan wondered just how fast they could do this so he decided to time it.
A boat and the top.
Now it is starting its decent.
When it is all the way lowered you can't see any of the brown.

We also enjoyed a dinner with Stephanie (a friend from childhood) and her family.  Logan and her daughters enjoyed playing together.
