Vocabulary Explosion

Owen's vocabulary is really starting to develop. He has several new words and phrases and will copy most things that are said to him.

Some of his new words: dada bye bye, mama help, go jack (cheering for Georgia Tech), potty, poopoo, walk, out, mine, bound ball, gotta go, stop and go. He can also tell you what the dog, cat, cow, horse, monkey and rooster say. He is working hard and I am very proud of him.

Busy Day

Today was a wonderful yet busy day. After dropping Logan off at school we stopped by Veteran's Park to let the boys swing for about 50 minutes. We had a good bit of time to kill before Nathan's eye appointment. The appointment is near Logan's school so it made much more sense to have fun at the park than to waste our time riding in the car back home for a few minutes. The boys love swinging and we also squeeze in lots of speech therapy (and they don't even know it).

Nathan's appointment went well. His eyes look good but there is still some separation and drifting. He can have the eye surgery to straighten at any time but we told the doctor since we have the cochlear surgery and a possible leg surgery we would probably wait a while. He thought that was a wise decision.

Nathan and Own enjoyed their class at The Bell Center, as always. They love their friends, therapist, and everyone else there.

Nathan and Owen had their evaluation today at Hall Kent Elementary. The boys were put in separate rooms and Preston and I were asked tons of questions. This evaluation is for speech and classroom behavior. They both had a great time and loved playing. Everyone at Hall Kent is friendly and we are looking forward to beginning the preschool program.

This afternoon Logan and I made a pumpkin spice dip for his class. This week they are studying pumpkin.

Randomness

This post is a little bit random in the amount of scattered thoughts.

1). We have decided to do the second cochlear implant for Nathan. So, we will start the road again. It is 2-6 months away, depending on different things we need to get done. Please pray for the timing of the implant and for insurance coverage. Last time we got a letter stating they were not confirming or denying payment on the upcoming surgery. Thankfully last time they did pay.

2). We put Nathan on 5ml 2x/day of Baclofen. This was to help with his startle reflex and some of his jumpiness. Since Sunday we have already notices a difference in his ability to stay calm and not jittery. We are very exciting. He is getting so much stronger and was able to bench sit for about 10 minutes, only falling back once.

3). Owen worked on sitting this morning too and did well.

4). I mentioned several months that I was having some problems with foot pain. I have planter fasciitis. Since my pain has seen no relief I am switching from a podiatrist to an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in feet. I have an appointment next Tuesday.

5). Both boys have new leg splints. They don't mind them at all. Both of them, especially Owen are showing improvement just from wearing them this past week.

Milestones

We had a few milestones this week. First Owen told us he had to go poo poo. We took him to the bathroom. He went in the toilet and then kept saying bye bye poo poo when he was finished. He was so proud of himself.

Nathan made the airplane noise while playing with the airplane in speech therapy!

Greek Food Festival

Tonight our family enjoyed some delicious food at The 40th Annual Greek Food Festival.  We ALL (though the jury is still out for Nathan) love Greek Food.  We met our friends, The Comers, and really enjoyed our evening together.  Logan, Sarah and James loved playing around this street pole.  Nathan and Owen love going places in their backpacks.  It allows them to be upright, look around everywhere and still sit down.

Nathan was almost asleep.  He perked up when he saw the flash.

Preston's work

I thought some of you may enjoy seeing some of Preston's work.  This is the new Children's Hospital in Birmingham.  It is beautiful.  We walked through it this evening while we were downtown.  It was my first time to see it.  It is stunning.

Whole Foods Sample Connoirseur

Today Logan went with me to Whole Foods.  He enjoyed pushing Mater around in the cart and eating the samples.  I am glad to know his taste are sharpening.  Instead of Kraft Cheese Slices, he now has a block of aged cheddar in the fridge.
